I've been trying to add the widget onto my blog too and have no luck what so ever! My blog is coutureandthecity.onsugar.com and other blogs on this site have the friend connect widget so its not as though its incompatible with onsugar. around a month ago I added the gadget onto my site and it was working just fine, it then stopped showing up. Please help me i would really appreciate it!

I wonder if it's possible to tweak the registry settings for my WordPress blog so that WLW will still upload pics to Picasa instead of to my domain's upload folder. That way I can offload the picture serving to Google and cut down on my bandwidth usage!

Hi Anna,

There are two versions of the WordPress software: WordPress.Com and WordPress.Org.

Blogs that are on WordPress.Com are said to be hosted on WordPress while sites that are using the software provided by WordPress.Org (notice the .org instead of .com) are said to be self-hosted. Here, self-hosted doesn't necessarily mean that you are hosting it yourself - as this can be on a commercial hosting web service - but only that it's not hosted on WordPress.Com.

So, your blog is either hosted on WordPress.Com or you are using the software provided by WordPress.Org to be self-hosted.

The problem here is that the two versions of the wordpress software (WordPress.Com or Self-Hosted), while similar for most of their features, are also very different in many key ways and many things that can be done with the self-hosted solution (using the software from WordPress.Org) are not possible when your blog is instead hosted on WordPress.Com.

To my knowledge, using the Google Friend Connect (GFC) gadget is one of these things: you can install it on a self-hosted wordpress blog but not on a WordPress.Com blog.

If I have time, I will try to create my own blog on wordpress.com this week to further test for this but my initial research on the internet tell me that this is not possible at this moment with WordPress.com; only with WordPress.org.

i have over 10 hours tryed but without luck...

i have it tried with your code and also to change the long number in yellow, but when i put it into the wordpress > textwidget it appears on my side in front not in the google friend connect layout.

I've just took a look at your website and you are using the javascript file "prototype.js"; so you will have to add the JSON fix just before the call to the GFC connect module:

(NOTE: I've put a blank space inside the tags < script> and < /script> so that they can be written inside this comment by passing the anti-spam filter.)

In my opinion, possibly/probably that this will be sufficient in your case but I cannot be sure until you have tried it.

Let me know if you still have any problem after that or if you have problem inserting this javascript fix into your HTML code.
